Summer is in Full Swing

Yes! It's summertime. That means no school, no classes, and lots of fun. It's been so nice to have lots of time with my boys. We've been to Disney, swimming, movies, library, and doing our own version of school here at home (poor boys having both their parents as teachers!).

I've also gotten a chance to do a lot of reading and writing. My WIP is coming along nicely and I'm excited about it. Are you on Goodreads?  I am here. Come friend me! I love to see what my blogger friends are reading.

One of my favorite reads so far this summer was Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins. I liked the first book in the series but this one really pulled me into the story. I was so impressed with Hawkins storytelling. It's true, I'm a very picky reader, but this book was not only hard to put down with its engaging plot, but her writing was so smooth and effortless that I forgot I was reading a book. So often in books I find myself being reminded by the narration that I'm actually reading a book rather than just 'living' out the story.

What is your favorite book so far this summer?

I'm a little late to the party, but I just read "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett a few weeks ago and LOVED it. Some others that I also rated 5 stars on my Shelfari shelf are "The Missing" by Tim Gautreaux and "The Book of Fires" by Jane Borodale.

Do you like Goodreads better than Shelfari? I know someone else who's on Goodreads but haven't wanted to switch my huge lists over to another site, or start another set of lists.

Hey Jen! Great to hear from you! Those sound like awesome books. All I've been reading lately is YA so it would be good for me to get out of that genre for a while and try something new.

I started off with Shelfari but found that so many YA authors were using Goodreads so I switched. It's a lot of work to switch over though! I'd just check it out and see which you like better.

Oh, Rick Yancey's Monstrumologist books! They're so gothically yummy, and they're great crossovers for young adults to adults. I'm not sure why they're actually classified as young adult, but I would recommend them to anyone who loves a good, thoughtful scare.

Just friended you on Goodreads! Nice to have another YA-reader/writer to follow!

Best book of the summer so far was hands down RED GLOVE by Holly Black. I loved WHITE CAT, but I think I enjoyed the sequel even more.

I'll have to look into DEMONGLASS. I enjoyed the first one, but have to admit I wasn't rushing out to get the second. Thanks for the recommendation!
